Helping Northern Gas Networks to develop their future business strategy by engaging with expert stakeholders
Context
The energy regulator Ofgem has introduced a new framework which requires gas distribution networks, such as Northern Gas Networks, to embrace innovation, support decarbonisation, and develop long-term climate resilience strategies, whilst balancing the interests of customers, investors and stakeholders. Northern Gas Networks, recognising the need for expert input to inform their strategy, commissioned Qa to engage with stakeholders on the key topics of: innovation, climate change and resilience, and decarbonisation.
Approach
In collaboration with Northern Gas Networks, Qa recruited stakeholders from an array of different organisations and with diverse areas of expertise to take part in online workshops and depth interviews. The workshops were split by theme, ensuring each key topic was discussed in detail. Alongside presentations by Northern Gas Networks staff about their proposed future strategy, Qa’s team of experienced qualitative researchers facilitated the sessions, leading discussions in breakout groups and across each group as a whole.
Outcome
Our sessions enabled Northern Gas Networks to engage in dialogue with stakeholders and hear a range of voices from across key industry sectors, which they could use to shape their business strategy. Qa also produced reports summarising the findings from each workshop and highlighting the key takeaways that Northern Gas Networks could use to ensure they develop an effective strategy for the future.
